How To Connect A Godaddy Domain To SiteGround
Let’s begin. Please pay attention to every step shown below to erase the chances of error.
Step 1: Purchasing Process
To connect the Godaddy domain with SiteGround, you need to purchase a SiteGround plan. Head over to SiteGround and select the plan you want.
(If you are a beginner, then try out their StartUp plan, it will cost you around 60$ for one year (Domain Excluded). You can upgrade the plan whenever you need.)
Once you click on the Get Started Button, SiteGround will present 4 different types of plans for your site. Select the StartUp plan if you are just starting.
(If you have a blog that gets more than 10,000 visits per month, then select their GrowBig or GoGeek plan.)
In their startup plan, you only get 10GB of Web Space, which in my opinion isn’t enough. There are some web hosts that offer unlimited web space in their every plan.
That is a downside of SiteGround. Hopefully, they will improve it.
Enter The Name Of The Domain You Have Purchased From Godaddy
Once you will select the plan and continue, SiteGround will ask you to register a new domain or enter the name of the domain you already have.
In our case, we have already purchased a domain from Godaddy, so will enter the name of the domain we have purchased.
Fill Out Payment Details
Now, select the renewal period and fill in some information about yourself. Make sure to select their one-year plan to get the maximum benefits.
Do not select their SG Scanner, I don’t recommend their SG Scanner tool as there are some free plugins available that can do a better job than it. Click it here read more about it.
Also, select the data center closer to your target audience. Choosing a data center that isn’t close to your audience could increase the latency rate. Read about how data centers play a role in your website speed.
Step 2: Login To SiteGround
After completing the payment info, you will be able to log in to your SiteGround account. The front page of your SiteGround account when you will log in will look something like this:
Click on Websites to begin the process of connecting your Godaddy domain to SiteGround.
When you will click on Websites, you will find out that there is no website connected with your hosting account.
Click on “New Website” to add your domain.
Step 3: Add Your Domain
Now, we have reached a stage where we can add our domain to SiteGround. You will see 3 different types of options: New Domain, Existing Domain, and temporary Domain.
Click On Existing Domain.
Enter the domain name and Click on Continue.
When you will click on Continue, SiteGround will inform you that the domain you are entering isn’t registered with SiteGround. Ignore it, and Click On Continue again to proceed to the next step.
Once you click on continue, SiteGround will again give you two options: Start New Website & Migrate Website.
Click On Start New Website
Step 3: WordPress Installation
Now, choose the best CMS on this planet “WordPress” and proceed to the next step.
Setup WordPress Login
Enter a user ID and password. Make sure to create a strong password that contains letters, numbers, and symbols. Creating a guessable password may put your website at risk of hacking.
Don’t Select SG Scanner
SiteGround again offer SG Scanner to you, just ignore it and click on Finish.
Now, SiteGround will take a few minutes to set up everything, wait and let SiteGround set it up for you.
Once SiteGround finished creating your WordPress site, you will get a success message on the next page.
Step 4: Point Your Godaddy Domain to SiteGround
Under Point Your Domain, you will be able to see 2 nameservers. Copy both of them and go to Godaddy.com
Step 5: Login To Your GoDaddy Account And Paste The Name Servers
Once you are in, you will see your domain name and an option called DNS, click on it, and then click on change.
Clicking on the Change button will present to you a new page where you will able to remove the default name servers with Siteground name servers.
Paste The Name Servers
This is the final step to connect your GoDaddy domain with SiteGround hosting.
Once you click on the Save button, it may take up to 24hrs to get set up properly. However, I have noticed that it doesn’t take even 2 hours to propagate.
So, wait patiently. If you have followed the steps carefully, you won’t be going to face any issues.
Step 6: Go To SiteGround To Check Your Site And SSL Installation
Head over to SiteGround and click on Websites to see the recent website you have added.
Click on Site Tools to begin the process of SSL installation.
After clicking on Site Tools, you will see a big menu on the left side (they have a lot of options). To install SSL on your site, you need to click on Security and then SSL Manager.
Now, choose Let’s encrypt SSL for your site and click on Get
It may take a few minutes to install SSL on your site. So, wait for it, and once it is done, you will see a success message stating that the SSL has been successfully installed on your site.
Step 7: Login To Your Website
Now is the time to visit your site and see how it’s looking. Click on Websites again, and then click on WordPress Kit.
Under WordPress Admin Click on GO.
Log in to your site by entering the email and password you entered while installing WordPress into your site.
